FROM THE GYM
Four19 is Ben Marcussen’s calisthenics training school We offer tailored private training in Ben’s outdoor gym in Bath.
We work with complete beginners who want to be that bit fitter, as well as those who have tried the gym and grown tired of the repetition and the atmosphere and want to explore a new type of training.
By using minimalist equipment, such as bars and gymnastic rings, we keep training simple but maximise your body’s capabilities.
Working with Ben, you’ll start with the true foundations of calisthenics. We’ll rebuild how your body is designed to function, peeling back the layers of misalignment, injury and poor posture. When you start from the foundations, you greatly reduce your chance of injury and increases the speed of your results.
OUTDOOR TRAINING VS THE GYM
Outdoor training typically delivers faster benefits than training in the gym. Why?
The outdoors is a healthier environment: cleaner air, higher oxygen content, few toxins, full spectrum natural light.
Trees, plants and birdsong generate an environment that is both relaxing and energising.
It is easier to focus without any artificial stimulus or being surrounded by people.
These factors combine to make it easier to pick up new skills and improve your performance.

BEN’S STORY
When it came to exercise, I wasn’t interested. It just wasn’t my thing. Sport never appealed to me in school, and when I grew a bit older, the gym was far too intimidating. It was only at 17 when my friends challenged me to do a pull-up and I could barely hang onto the bar, that I knew something had to change.
I began just by doing press-ups in my room. I soon discovered more and more exercises I could practise without expensive equipment, and a whole world of calisthenics opened up to me.
It was when I began training outside that something clicked. Breathing clean fresh air, surrounded by natural sounds with sky above my head, my training routine became more satisfying and far more enjoyable. I felt amazing after training and my entire body and mind started to be transformed. Since then, I have become more disciplined, more confident, and far happier.
As calisthenics became my passion, I realised I wanted to help other people discover it too. I trained to become a qualified personal trainer and over the years of coaching people, I discovered a passion for understanding the deeper science of the human body. My constantly progressing knowledge of human physiology, biomechanics and nutrition has enabled me to take calisthenics training to new levels.
I will always be exploring and discovering more about calisthenics. Join me and take a step outside the ordinary.
